Re: Any truth here?
Mon, January 1, 2007 - 10:46 AMConspiracy and porn are so abundant online. Because I keep bumping into conspiracy I make some feeble attempts to try to survey the terrain to identify the landmarks and get a feel for the space. The trouble is it's such a vast landscape my map of it is mostly an amorphous blob.
"Ambassador" Leo Wanta is new to me. This blog post is by a "101 Fighting Keyboardist" thechiefbrief.blogspot.com/2006....html still seems like a pretty good round up about Wanta's claims. There's a photo and link to a Lexis search as of 7/2002 here www.sanderhicks.com/vreeland...iles.html
I don't know where Sec. Paulson is, but I strongly suspect he's not in Germany at this time. -

Mon, January 1, 2007 - 12:12 PMYou are probably right. But why do they make such complex things? Too much time on their hands!

Re: Any truth here?
Tue, January 2, 2007 - 1:42 PMOK, out of a sense of openmindedness I attempted to read some of these links. Then I did some Google searches. It's significant that the only hits I get for "Leo Wanta" and "AmeriTrust Groupe" are other consiracy sites.
- If this guy was an ambassador, where was he ambassador to? Searches on the following sites list no "Wanta."
www.lib.ksu.edu/depts/spec...93-10g.html
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amba...ted_States
- A search of trademarked corporate names at www.bizfilings.com/TMS/app/...arch.aspx returns no "Ameritrust Groupe" registered anywhere, either state or federal.
- A search of the Commonwealth of Virginia State Corporation Commission returns no AmeriTrust Groupe. search.scc.virginia.gov/search
- This page (www.scc.virginia.gov/divisio...-99.pdf) lists an Ameritrust Mortgage Corporation approved in 1999, but this site (www.arcticbeacon.com/3-Aug-2006.html) claims that Ameritrust Groupe was created in 2004.
Something to keep in mind: 20 consipiracy sites rehashing the same story isn't very much smoke at all.
Something else to keep in mind: Stories don't stay around because they are true. Stories stay around because they are good stories.
A third thing: Never confuse your desire for a simple explanation as a desire for "the truth." The more you deeply WANT to believe something, the more you should treat it with suspicion.
Just my thoughts. My little searches don't prove anything. But it all smells like bullshit to me. -

Re: Any truth here?
Tue, January 2, 2007 - 4:11 PMHey, I don't WANT to believe anything or I would have come out with a trumpet fan fare. And Wanta was supposedly a Somali Ambassedor to Switzerland or some such silliness. The thing that bothers me is that, if this were true, then it might well only be seen on rather inept whistle blowing conspiracy sites. In other words, the details smell but the scenario is faintly feasible. And hanging in the background are the present US administration's moves that appear to be aimed at weakening the US dollar. All I do know is that we don't have the complete picture. -

Re: Any truth here?
Tue, January 2, 2007 - 7:34 PMAh, he was supposedly a Somali ambassador? OK, I assumed he was a US ambassador. Still suspicious that he's not findable on the 'Net.
Not sure if the administration is attempting to weaken the dollar right now or not. I know they want to weaken it compared to the Yuan (is that China's currency? Whatever China uses.) to help with the trade imbalance, but they can't do that by weakening the dollar because the Chinese don't let their currency float. They want the Chinese let their currency float.
It's a tricky business: The US wants the world to trust dollars, but a weak dollar helps out helps domestic producers and keeps more jobs in the US, which the administration also wants.
If it were true, it would be all over the mainstream media. Scandals sell newspapers. You also have to ask yourself this: How did the conspiracy sites find out about it? I mean, seriously, try to come up with a believable scenario where ALL the conspiracy sites have a quasi-detailed story, with theoretically verifiable information, but no serious newspapers pick it up. It's just not creditable.
What is possible is a conspiracy site hearing from somebody that there's a plot to assassinate such-and-such, but with no way to confirm the story. Heck, the conspiracy site might actually be right, but a serious newspaper wouldn't pick it up because there would be no way to confirm it. Or, some site might accidentally hear about something first. It's possible. Matt Drudge certainly heard about some things that newspapers didn't want to print right away, because they were just rumor when Drudge posted them. But, when there was confirmation, the papers picked it up. -
