Saw this on a list from Ithaca, NY (home of Ithaca HOURS, well-known local currency) and am sharing it here:

----------------------------------------------------------------
The Living Wage Business Certfication program

Dear all,

The William Henry Miller Inn is one of 17 local businesses, non-profits and
governmental bodies that have received "Living Wage Certification" in our
ongoing program to reward and acknowledge businesses that pay a living
wage. So if William Henry Miller Inn can do it, why not Holiday Inn? If Morris Men's Wear can do it, why not Wal-Mart? If Alternatives [Credit Union] can do it, why not Bank of America? If Tompkins County can do it, why not the Ithaca City School District?
If Blue Spruce Painting, Sparks Electric and Custum Construction can do it, why can't all the other contractors? If GreenStar can do it, why not Tops? If Autumn Leaves can
do it, why not Barnes and Noble?

Please show the businesses and others we certify that you care about the
living wage by spending your dollars with them or by sending them a note
thanking them for showing that good business practices and good values can
go together, and for valuing their employees.

"A Living Wage is a Moral Value" stickers and bumper stickers available now at Living Wage Center for suggested donation of $1.00

All businesses pay a living wage because if it wasnt enough for some one to find a way to live on it they would be DEAD!!!!

Some jobs arent worth doing for a living, if you want to try to do some undervalued job and live on what it pays thats your business. Not too many boys with a paper rout are trying to support a family and if they are then what was that woman thinking hooking up with a man of that few qualifications and ambition.

That's clearly why no-one ever works two jobs to make ends meet.

They still found a way to live and thats my point. Every job isnt important enough to make a living at. If every job had to pay enough for some one to live off of it there are a lot of businesses that would just go out of business because no one would be willing to pay what their services cost at that price. If you dont want to work for shit money then dont. At least in America (though I cant say the same for the socialist countries of the world) if you arent happy with what you are making then go into business for yourself. Create your own job. If you still cant make it then its your fault for not preparing yourself properly for the real world.
